DEVOTION – DAY 82

1 Timothy 2:8 “Coming Before God In Prayer”

1 Peter 1:22 “Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart.”

How can sinful people be accepted by our Holy God? The only way is through the confession of their sins and belief that Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. By doing so, our sins have been cleansed by the shed blood of Jesus. And God purifies us and accepts us as His children. 1 Peter 1:22 confirms that when we obey the gospel message that is in John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”, God forgives us. And because God loved us, we are commanded to love one another deeply, from our hearts. Not superficially but deeply.

This is the only way one can become a Christian and be accepted by God as His child. There is no other way. We do not become a Christian by listening to the testimony of someone about his or her own conversion experience. That may move our hearts and stir in us an emotional response but our own conversion requires a personal realization that we are sinners in need of a Savior. We cannot help ourselves, but have to trust that Jesus died for our sins in our place on the cross. This is the only way to be saved from the penalty for our sins.

Many would have heard of Stephen Hawking, the famous English theoretical physicist, cosmologist and author who died in March 2018. Despite being stricken with a form of motor neuron disease that left him paralyzed for over 50 years, he had a brilliant mind and made breakthroughs in theoretical physics. He was also famous for his theories on cosmology. However, he resisted believing in God throughout his life choosing to believe in science. As brilliant as he was, he admitted that he made mistakes in his life having had broken relationships and failed marriages. He thought that there was no life after death. He chose to believe that there is no God, no heaven and that no one created the Universe. Sadly, his choice means that his sins remain with him and he faces judgment and eternal separation from God.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, you have revealed yourself in all creation. You are impossible to ignore. We thank you for sending your Son, the Lord Jesus to die for our sins so that whoever believe in Him as Lord and Savior will nor perish but have eternal life. We pray that this truth be made known to every unbeliever so that they have a chance to be saved. In the precious name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.
