DEVOTION – DAY 614
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust And Submit To God”
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
The writer of the above verses reminds us to “trust the Lord with all our hearts.” This was because in ancient times, when Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, they trusted God implicitly and were delivered. At one point, the Israelites seemed cornered. Ahead of them was the sea. At their back was the advancing army of Pharaoh. If Moses and the Israelites trusted on their own understanding, they would have surrendered to Pharoah. Their eyes told them they were trapped. But they trusted God. Then, the waters parted before them, in faith, they crossed the sea whilst God held Pharaoh and his army back, and they were saved. In the same way, our present circumstances may seem bad. Human logic will tell us we face failure or ill health, or disappointments. But we are to trust our circumstances to God’s hands and trust in Him alone, that whatever the outcome, God will work good out of it, even though it may not be in ways we expect.
In v6 above, we are reminded to always be mindful of God and serve Him with a willing, faithful and obedient heart. When we do that, God will remove the obstacles from our paths and help us achieved out appointed goals. This is what “making our paths straight” means. I know someone who was diagnosed with cancer recently. He was filled with fear and concern. I prayed with him and told him to surrender his illness to God. God graciously answered prayers. A notable surgeon was identified and he agreed to give this man priority as he needed surgery as soon as possible. The cancer was still operable and his tests showed that he was able to undergo the complex surgical procedures. The Lord was making his paths straight.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we are merciful and gracious. You are faithful and trustworthy. Thank you for hearing our prayers and your Word that calms the storms in our lives. Please help us to trust in you and not on our own understanding. Help us to submit fully to you always. We pray in the holy name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
