DEVOTION – DAY 607
2 Timothy 3:16-17 “God’s Word”
2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
The above verses tell us clearly that “All Scripture” – all the 66 books that form the Bible is “God-breathed”. The 66 books may have been written by more that 40 separate authors over the span of almost 2 millennium, but every Word is “God-breathed”, meaning that God is the one behind their inspiration. It has one common theme of God redeeming His people through His Son, reconciling them to Himself. The Word of God is thus useful for teaching us, rebuking us, correcting us when we stray and sin, and training us to live righteous lives. When we read and apply the Bible in our daily lives, we will be able to face every circumstance ably and carry out God’s will for us and for His glory.
When I was first given a Bible as an unbeliever, I could not understand it at all. I never got past reading a few chapters because it was written for an ancient people. I wondered how it could be relevant to me in modern times. But when I became a Christian, God gave me His Spirit who came and lived within me. The Spirit opened my spiritual eyes and gave me an interest in God’s Word. Suddenly, I wanted to read the Bible to get to know who God really is and what He has to teach me and say to me. What I read slowly began to make sense. The more I did study of the Bible, the more helpful I found the Bible to guide me in my daily challenges. I am more aware of God’s holiness and I become more convicted of my own sinful thoughts, actions and behavior. The amazing thing is that I never lose my interest in God’s Word and it continues to speak to me. I continue to learn new things about God because it is His living Word.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we thank you for the precious gift of your Word, your main way of communicating with us. Please help us to spend daily quiet time reflecting on your Word, and help us to apply it in our lives for eternal good and for your glory. In Jesus Christ’ great name we pray. Amen.
