DEVOTION – DAY 603
Romans 1:19-20 “God’s Presence Is Revealed”
Romans 1:19-20 “Since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities – His eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
Why do many people want to visit some tropical island for a holiday? Many would say that they love walking on the beach, watching the sun slowly set on the horizon. As the sky darkens, they would notice the countless stars shine brightly that most people miss in the cities because of the glare of artificial lighting. Why do people go to the mountains for a break? Many would say they love the clean fresh air, the panoramic views of the mountain ranges. They love walking beside rushing streams and be surrounded by lush forests. Why do people plant flower gardens? So that they can enjoy the different varieties of flowers when they bloom in season.
But how often do these same people stop and wonder who created the sun, moon, stars, mountains, steams, waterfalls, flowers, forests, animals and fishes and so on? The above verses remind everyone that since the start of creation of the world, God has made His presence known to us. God is the creator of the heavens and earth and everything in it. Although we cannot see Him, we marvel at His power and divine nature and creativity. That is why no one can have an excuse to say that they do not know God.
But instead of acknowledging God’s presence and worshipping Him, many people instead worship idols made to resemble humans, animals and so on. They foolishly worship the creation, and not the Almighty Creator of the Universe. That is what Romans 1:21-23 says. That is why we see Hindu gods in the shape of elephants, bulls and people worship statues of Buddha and Kuan Yin – human looking idols made by human hands and so on.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, forgive us for the times we might have worshipped idols and not you, the Almighty, All-powerful eternal God. We pray that everyone’s spiritual eyes will be open to the truth of their foolishness in worshipping created things and not the Creator. We humbly pray in the precious name of the Lord Jesus Chris, Amen.
