DEVOTION – DAY 598
Isaiah 25:1 “Praise The Lord”
Isaiah 25:1 “O Lord, you are my God. I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness, you have done marvelous things, things planned long ago.”
The prophet, Isaiah, wanted to give praise to God because in Isaiah 24, Isaiah had recorded God’s judgement against evil that is in the world and His deliverance of Jerusalem and its elders. Thus, Isaiah praised God for His faithfulness and mighty deeds. Isaiah also wanted to praise God for His sovereignty and control over everything.
Today, we must also praise God for He is faithful and delivers His people. He has done marvelous things, things we sometimes take for granted. His graciously provide for our daily needs. He has given us salvation from our sins even though we had initially rejected Him. But He had chosen us even before we knew of Him. He had placed us in a country that is relatively peaceful and has given us His precious Word to guide us daily. He has invited is to walk with Him and to give us peace. So, let us be grateful and give Him all the praise and glory He deserves.
We know someone who had served the Lord faithfully in her church and in many other ministries. She was also active in her church’s visitation ministry. She showed compassion to many elderly church members by visiting them regularly. But one day, she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. What started as a slight tremor in her hands have now progressed and she is increasingly housebound by her health condition. Despite her disability, she still gives praise to God every morning for it is His gift to her. She thanks God for giving her the strength and peace to cope with the slow worsening of her health condition. She knows she can trust Him and passages like Isaiah 25:1 gives her peace as she fixed her eyes on God, and not on her current circumstances.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we praise you for you are faithful and sovereign. Thank you for being our source of strength, peace and hope in all circumstances. Please help us to walk closely with you always. We humbly pray in the precious name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
