DEVOTION – DAY 592
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 “God Will Judge”
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 “Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.”
The book of Ecclesiastes was written by King Solomon. He lived a full life and had a great deal of wealth and power. With all his vast experiences, he concluded that the only thing that matters in life is to fear God. By that, he meant that we must have a loving reverence for God because God is the foundation and source of all wisdom. Thus, we must do what He says. That means we are to keep God’s commandments. V13 declares that keeping God’s commandments is the duty of all mankind. This applies to everyone regardless of their race, religion, or social background. God expects everyone to have a loving reverence of Him and to keep His commandments. God is Omnipresent and Omniscient. Nothing escapes Him. He will ultimately judge us for our every action, thought and deed.
Today, there are powerful people who think that they can get away with corruption and amass wealth for themselves. There are people who have good public images but behind the backs of people, when they think no one is watching, their behavior is bad and even evil. On the other hand, there are also many people who are unsung heroes, people who set up soup kitchens to feed the poor, or people who offer free legal aid for those who need legal help but have no means to afford lawyer fees. There are doctors who volunteer to run clinics for the poor and so on. V14 tells us that God sees everything and He will judge every action, good or bad.
We know someone who loved the Lord and spent his life serving the Lord. He may not have great wealth but his needs are simple and he is contented with what he has. We also know someone who had amassed wealth through corruption and because he had the “right connections.” We do not have to wonder why God allows such disparity in the distribution of wealth. This is because we can trust that God is in control and in the final analysis, God will judge every action, good and bad. No one will be exempt because God expects all mankind to love Him and keep his commandments.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we worship you for you are holy and righteous. Please help us to always have a loving reverence for you and to keep to your Word and to obey you all the days of our lives. We pray in the precious name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
