DEVOTION – DAY 59
Exodus 14:13-14 “Do not be afraid, Be still”
Exodus 14:13-14 “Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance of the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
The above verses recorded an incident well known to all the Israelites. They had escaped Egyptian slavery and Moses had led them to the shores of the Red Sea. But right behind them was Pharaoh and his army coming to recapture them. It seemed to the Israelites that they were trapped and they feared for their lives. Moses assured the Israelites in reply to stand firm and not be afraid. The Lord will fight the battle for them.
There are times in our lives when we may be obedient to Him only to find many obstacles in our way. We try every option only to fail and we run out of ideas. We have no one to turn to except cry out to God. That is precisely where God wants us to be because that is when He reveals His glory by helping us out of a seemingly impossible situation. We know that it is all God’s doing because all our own efforts had failed.
Recently, a couple lost their jobs. They had worked in restaurants but the restaurants had to close because of the Covid-19 lockdowns. The couple was also expecting their first child. They prayed to God and they depended on help from their friends. They started to use the little savings they had to survive. When their savings began to dwindle and they knew they could no longer rely on their friends for help, they were desperate. They could only cry out to God. Then, they remembered that they had met a customer in the restaurant where they worked before. He had given them his card and he is a Pastor. They contacted him in desperation asking for any help he could give. The Pastor quickly responded and delivered food supplies, some cash and even baby necessities. When this couple had no one else to turn to, God provided for them through the actions of this Pastor. God came to their rescue when there was no hope.
There are times when God wants us to keep still and let Him fight our battles because all will know that He is the one who deserves all the glory. Otherwise, we may think that our own little efforts somehow contributed towards our victories.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, you are our tower of refuge in time of need. Please come to our assistance and hear our cries. Help us to keep still and trust in your unfailing love. We give you all the glory. In Jesus Christ great name. Amen.
- Are you facing a difficult situation? It may be a medical illness that the doctors have been unable to give relief. It could be a loss of income opportunities. Will you keep still and set aside your fears?
- How can you show that you trust God with your present difficulties so that all glory goes to Him?
- How has God come to your rescue in the past? Will you share and give Him the glory.
