DEVOTION – DAY 567
Mark 10:6-9 “What God Says About Marriage And Sex”
Mark 10:6-9 “But at the beginning of creation God made them male and female. For this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. So, they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
The above verses give us much truth and clarity in our world today where there is gender confusion, marital infidelity, sexual promiscuity, and couples avoiding marriage altogether. The Lord tells us that He created us either male or female. God also created the institution of marriage and sexual union within marriage. God also ordained that marriage should last for life and that couples should remain faithful to each other. God had desired truth, faithfulness and companionship between couples throughout their lifelong marriage to each other.
God’s plan for His creation is being eroded by today’s worldly thinking. Popular culture wants to confuse people’s sexual identity. Young people are now encouraged to explore to decide their sexual identity. If they are unsure whether they are male or female, they could opt to be sexually fluid. Young people may even choose to have their sex re-assigned through surgical methods as in the case of someone we know who is planning such a transition.
We also know of some couples who choose to just live together and forgoing the idea of marriage saying that it is an outdated and irrelevant concept. The problem with such thinking is that there is no security and true commitment in such a relationship. Sometimes, it works for the couples but sometimes, the couples break up and find other partners and forge new relationships. Also, couples are also encouraged by their peers and popular culture to experiment with sex and be promiscuous and just have fun. This robs young people of the joy of discovering sexual union that God had planned only within the confines and security of marriage. Thus, when sexually active people finally get married, the feeling of mutual trust and faithfulness is already eroded before the couple has even got started. We know someone who married a man who was promiscuous before marriage. She always has to keep an eye on her husband and to keep warning him and reminding him of his marital vows to each other. This is what happens when people do not obey God’s Word.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, you are always wise, and wants the best for your creation. Please help us to be faithful to your Word. Help us to maintain sexual purity and to guard our hearts and minds against the lies in today’s worldly culture. We humbly pray in the great name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
