DEVOTION – DAY 519
Jeremiah 29:13 “Seek And Find God”
Jeremiah 29:13 “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
Have you ever misplaced something and you had to search all over your home to look for the missing item? After putting every effort into the search, you will usually find what you were looking for. Well, searching for God is like that in that God tells us that if we really seek Him with all our hearts, we will find Him. In fact, God has always been there with us, it is just that God is Spirit and we do not see Him. Just because we do not see Him does not mean He is not with us. But because we may sometimes drift away from God, or allow worldly pursuits to draw us away from God, we forget about God, or want nothing to do with God. But the promise in Jeremiah 29:13 remains, that we will find God if we seek Him with all our hearts.
A young man was ambitious. He wanted to be successful in his chosen career and he set goals for himself to achieve before he was thirty years old. He was able to meet most of his targets before he was thirty. The trouble was that having met his goals, the challenge was what goals should he set for himself? He realized quickly that money and career success did not satisfy him. He soon tired of his new car, his new house and he was always trying to look for something more satisfying. But he found that nothing gave him lasting contentment.
One day, he came across a gospel tract that someone had given him. Out of curiosity, he read it. He realized that the one thing that might fill his empty heart was a relationship with God. So, he decided to tell God quietly in his heart that he was willing to take the risk to follow God. He told God he was willing to surrender himself to God and let God make him into the kind of person that God wanted him to be. He asked God to give Him an inner peace that he wanted. God answered his prayer and before long, this man began his spiritual journey with the Lord. Over time, the Lord changed his focus from money, career and position to focus on building God’s Kingdom. He finally found a deep satisfaction and contentment that was missing in his life. He had sought God with all his heart and he found God just as Jeremiah 29:13 had promised.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, thank you for being patient, understanding and loving towards us. Thank you for your promise that we will find you when we seek you with all our hearts. Please help us to help many unbelievers to seek and find you and to have a relationship with you through our Lord Jesus. We humbly pray in the powerful name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
