DEVOTION – DAY 518

Deuteronomy 4:29 “Seeking God”

Deuteronomy 4:29 “But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find Him, if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”

Moses gathered the Israelites together and prophesied that they would be led into the Promised Land that God had prepared for them. He urged them to remain faithful to God. He also foretold that when they fall back on worshipping idols, doing evil in the eyes of the Lord, God would punish and scatter them from the Land. But in v29 above, Moses also told the people that if they were to seek the Lord and return to Him, they would find Him, if they sought God with all their hearts and souls.

Seeking God with all our hearts, souls and strength means giving God our complete involvement and commitment. V29 not only refers to seeking God with our hearts and souls, but the verse is also applied to how we should revere and fear God with all our hearts, souls and strength. It is also applied to how we should love God, and to serve Him with all our hearts, souls and strength. This is especially important that if we ever forsake God for whatever reason, when we turn back to Him in repentance, we must renew our allegiance and commitment to Him completely.

We knew someone who was in danger of falling away from God. It started with him facing difficulty in getting up on Sundays to go to church. So, he decided to follow church services later online. Soon, it became his preferred pattern and he told himself that he was still worshipping God. After a while, he was only following online services whenever he could fit it into his busy schedule. He had allowed his schedule to take priority over his Sunday Church services time with God.

It took a crisis in his life to cause him to turn back to God. He knew he ought to go back to attending regular church services. When he came back to church, we had to tell him that he needed to seek God with all His heart, soul and strength. He had to be committed and involved. We told him he cannot sit on the fence where God is concerned with one leg in the world, and one leg planted in God’s world. We are praying that he will return and be fully committed and involved with God.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, please forgive us for the times when we have been unfaithful and distracted by the things of this world. Thank you for drawing us back to you. Thank you for always being there when we return to seek your Face. Please help us to always seek you with all our hearts, souls and strength. We humbly pray in the precious name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
