DEVOTION – DAY 50

2 Peter 1:9 – “A royal priesthood”

2 Peter 1:9: “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.”

If this world is not our real home, why does God leave us here after we become Christians? What does He want us to do while we remain on earth? The apostle Peter tells us in this verse that God chose Christians to be His people. He reminds us that we a royal priesthood. What do priests do? Priests represent the people as they pray to God for their nation and the needs of others.

As we face many uncertainties because of Covid-19, the least you and I can do is to pray unceasingly for God to be merciful to our nation and its people. We can pray for a righteous government to be governing our country. We can pray for our country’s leadership to fear God. We can pray that God will hold back the forces of evil wanting to rule over our nation. We can humble ourselves and seek forgiveness from the Lord for how our nation’s resources have been misused, how we may have polluted the land for profit, how we have allowed money to be a false idol and so on. We can pray for the salvation of many who still do not have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. These are just some examples of how we can be part of God’s royal priesthood.

Christians are a holy nation, set apart for God. So, we need to ask ourselves if others see us as different from the rest of the world. If people are surprised when we tell them we are Christians, it means that our behavior and actions are no different from the rest of the world. We have failed to be set apart. It is not too late to change. The world is a dark sinful place but God has called us out of darkness into His wonderful light. Will you turn from sinful habits so that you can walk in His light?

If every Christian were to humble themselves, and pray for our nation, and for others, God will hear our prayers. Will you fulfill your role as part of God’s royal priesthood to pray regularly for the nation and for others? Do not delay because these are dark times we live in.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we worship you as the Almighty God, our Holy and righteous God. There is none like you. We seek you humbly to repent for the all that we and our nation have done that displeases you. Please hear our cries and heal our land. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
