DEVOTION – DAY 484
Psalm 121:7-8 “God’s Eyes Are On You”
Psalm 121: 7-8 “The Lord will keep you from all harm – He will watch over your life. The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”
In this psalm, we find assurance concerning all of life because the Lord watches over us all the time. He watches over us as we go about all our daily activities. This was particularly assuring for nomadic people living in ancient times. They move around a lot tending to their herds as they search for fresh pastures or water sources. Thus, this psalm assures people of God’s ability to keep them from harm. God is always watchful and He never sleeps (v4).
Today, we too welcome such an assurance because people may face uncertainties about their income, their jobs, their careers, their health status, and so on. They do not know what may arise to derail their plans. So, it is comforting to know that we can trust God to cast His ever-watchful eye over our coming and going now and forevermore.
We know someone who was driving south along the North South Expressway. She was in the middle lane of the 6 lane Expressway. Suddenly, she noticed a car approaching from behind at great speed. Before she could signal to move into the slow lane to allow the speeding car to overtake her car, the speeding car lost control and scraped the back of her car. She found her car spinning along the Expressway. All she could do was call out to the Lord to save her. The car spun several times. But it miraculously did not hit any other moving vehicle. The car went off the road, and crashed into an embankment. She was shaken and she found that apart from a few bruises, she had no other injuries. Her car was badly damaged and other motorists stopped to see if she needed help. The motorists helped her out of the car. Looking at her damaged car, everyone thought it was a miracle that she did not suffer any serious injuries. She could only thank God for watching over her and protecting her from danger.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we thank you for graciously watching over us, all our comings in, and goings out. Thank you for your protective hand over us always. Please help us to live lives worthy of your watchful eye, lives that are purposeful to honor you. We humbly pray in the wonderful name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
