DEVOTION – DAY 430
Psalm 147:3 “God Heals”
Psalm 147:3 “He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds.”
This verse was written to encourage the Jewish exiles who had returned to Jerusalem and were faced with opposition as they tried to rebuild Jerusalem’s walls. However, this verse may also be used to encourage anyone whose heart was broken because of a loss of something or someone. For those who have been saddened by the loss of someone, they will find comfort from the Lord. The Lord had promised in John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Comfort comes from the assurance that Christians when they passed away on earth, will be reunited in spirit and soul, to be with the Lord forever. Thus, losing a loved Christian when he or she passed away, is regarded as a temporary separation, for believers will be reunited with them one day.
For those who have been broken-hearted over a broken relationship, their pain is lessened when they are reminded that it is in the Lord that they find completeness. People may disappoint us but the Lord never disappoints us. He is faithful, just and trustworthy. For those who feel the loss of something, this verse reminds us that the Lord is all we need. That is why He heals the broken hearted and binds up all their wounds.
We met up with a friend whom we had not seen for some time. She told us how the Lord had helped her over the sudden loss of a close friend. Her friend was a missionary and he had a calling to serve in countries that were normally closed to Christian missionaries. Because his work was potentially dangerous, they did not let their relationship develop beyond that of a close friendship. Then, her friend died from Covid-19 in Central Asia. She felt the loss but she was also comforted in the fact that he was home with the Lord in heaven. She knew that she would see her friend again one day when it is time for her to go home to heaven to be with the Lord. Thus, she was able to say that the Lord healed her brokenness and filled her loss with His love.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we thank you for your promises and assurances that gives us much comfort and peace when we needed it. Please help us to be sensitive to know how to share your promises and assurances to others who may be broken-hearted or emotionally wounded, so that they too may be comforted by you. We pray this in the worthy name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
