DEVOTION – DAY 411

Psalm 119:105 “The Light On My Path”

Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”

Psalm 119 is the longest psalm and the longest chapter in the Bible. It is a devotional poem celebrating the Word of God. The psalmist was someone who was passionately devoted to God’s Word and regarded God’s Word as the word of life. The writer knew that God’s Word contained God’s instructions and abundant promises. It is through God’s Word that God calls people to obedience and to faith in Him. The psalmist likened God’s Word to something that was essential for life – he likened it to light. Without light, we would all be groping about in the darkness. We would be lost and we would not be able to see where we are going.

In the world of KPop, many of the singers find themselves having to live up to the expectations of their fans. They are expected to be multi-talented and always look good. Their every move is reported by the press and commented on by their fans. Under such enormous pressure, some become depressed and in extreme cases, they commit suicide. In April 2023, MoonBin, the KPop singer ended his own life. Others, like the singers Sulli, Goo Hara, Jonghyun all ended their lives in the last few years often being victims of intense cyber-bullying. Despite their fame and fortune, they all suffered from depression. They were examples of people who had all lost their way in life. They thought fame in KPop would be the source of their happiness, but their hopes were shattered when they faced relentless pressure and harsh scrutiny from fans. They took fans’ criticisms badly and it led to their depression.

None of them knew God and His Word. There was no light in their lives, only darkness. Because they found living hopeless, they all chose to end their lives, often when they were in their twenties. How sad! If only they found God and His Word. They would have found true significance from being children of God, something that is eternal and not based on the fickle support of fans. They would have been able to replace their depression with hope. They would have been still alive today.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, thank you for your blessed Word. It is indeed a light upon our feet, and our daily spiritual food. Please help us to apply your Word in our lives each day so that we can be transformed into the kind of people you want us to be. We humbly ask this of you in the wonderful name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
