DEVOTION – DAY 403
John 11:25-26 “I Am The Resurrection And The Life”
John 11:25-26 “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
In v25, Jesus declared that “I am the resurrection and the life.” That means that He is able to give resurrection and life. Since Jesus is the Son of God and He is fully God, final death is impossible for Him. The nature of resurrection and life is forever identified with Him because He is fully God. Jesus also declared that every believer in Him will also live. This is because Jesus is life itself and He gives life to believers. So death will never triumph over them. Believers may physically die but, as people who have eternal life, their physical death is not their final end. Death can never destroy the life that Jesus Christ gives.
At their physical death, a person’s spirit and soul will be with Jesus. The Bible also promises that when Jesus returns, a believer’s physical body will also be resurrected to an incorruptible body just like the Lord Jesus Christ. These verses offer great comfort to those who have recently lost their loved ones to death. It is comforting to know that death is not the final end. Those that have died have simply crossed over to eternity to be with the Lord Jesus Christ.
We received sad news recently that a couple we knew in church were in a fatal car accident. They had been faithful members of our church, actively serving in various capacities. This couple will be missed by many who knew them. But we are all comforted by the promise that Jesus made in John 11:25-26, that whoever lived by believing in Him, will never die. This couple certainly placed their faith and trust in the Lord Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
So, we have the assurance that though their physical bodies may have expired, their spirit and soul are well. For they have been ushered into the presence of the Lord Jesus and they are eternally home with Him. We too who are believers in the Lord Jesus will one day be reunited with them when it is our time to depart from this world. This is the comfort we have even as we are saddened by the sudden loss.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we know you are trustworthy and you stand by your Word. We take comfort that those we loved who have departed from this world to be with you, have gone on to a far better place. Even as we look forward to seeing them again one day, please help us to share the truth of the gospel to the people we know who have yet to place their faith and trust in the Lord Jesus. We humbly pray in the great name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
