DEVOTION – DAY 371
Luke 1:37 “God’s Word Is Trustworthy”
Luke 1:37 “For no Word from God will ever fail.”
What a wonderful assurance Christians have from God. We are told in Luke 1:37 that no Word from God will ever fail. An angel of the Lord appeared to Mary to inform her that she would bear a special child. At that time, she was still a virgin, so she questioned how it would be possible for her to conceive without a husband. The angel informed Mary that no Word from God will ever fail. She could believe that she would bear this special child. We know from history that she became the mother of the Lord Jesus Christ, just as the angel had prophesied. We can trust God. We can also trust God’s Word.
The Bible is God’s Word. The Bible was written by 40 men from different periods and from a variety of different professions. God inspired these men to write and Christians believe that the Bible is God’s own Word. Every word in the Bible is true and is to be a source of encouragement, guidance, warning, teaching and ministering to our spiritual needs. 2 Tim.3:16-17 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” These verses confirm that every single word in the Bible is from God – “God-breathed.”
Someone was asked to serve in an area of ministry that was outside of her comfort zone. She was surprised she was asked. She responded by saying that she could think of at least three other ladies that would do a better job than she could. But she agreed to pray about serving in this new area. She asked God to show her specifically whether or not she should agree to serve in this new area. She told God her concerns and feelings of inadequacy. In her daily morning reading of the Bible, she came across 1 Cor.1:27 “But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the strong.” She read this verse repeatedly and the following verses 28-31. She knew in heart that God had given His assurance to her to agree to serve in this new area. She knew that God would enable her to do the work despite her feelings of inadequacy, so that all glory goes to God. It has been some years since she served in this area, and she had no regrets. God had been faithful and had used her well in this area.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word that is our daily bread that we feed on. Thank you for its guidance, its assurances, its ministering to our spiritual needs. Please help us to read it, follow and obey it, and to use your Word to help others. We pray this in the holy name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
