DEVOTION – DAY 366
John 14:6 “I Am The Way”
John 14:6 “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
In the gospel of John, there are 7 “I am” statements. John 14:6 is 6th of these statements that Jesus made about Himself. Jesus states “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” It is a clear statement that there is no other way to Heaven to be with God, the Father. Belief in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior is the only way. This is in sharp contrast to what the world thinks today. There are people who think that all roads lead to Heaven. Jesus is just one of the ways to the Father. There are people who think that there are other ways to Heaven. They think it could be through good deeds, or through belief in their own gods. Some think that if they follow Prophet Mohammad, they will get to Heaven. Some think that if they follow Buddha’s teachings, they will get to Heaven. Many people think that Christians are too narrow minded and exclusive, by insisting that Jesus Christ is the only way. Many people think that it is better to be inclusive and accepting of different points of view, to embrace and accept all religious beliefs.
But Jesus Christ who made this statement in John 14:6 is not just anybody. He is the Son of God. He died on the cross for the sins of man and He rose again on the third day. His empty grave bore witness to His resurrection. His bodily resurrection was witnessed by several hundred people including the Roman guards guarding His sealed tomb. The resurrected Jesus was not a ghost. Witnesses saw Him, touched Him and ate food with Him. Many people also witnessed his ascension into Heaven after 40 days, following His resurrection. Four of His disciples separately wrote about what they saw. These accounts are in the Bible. We contrast this with Prophet Mohammad and Buddha. They were historical people who lived and died. But they both remained in their graves. Fragments of Buddha’s teeth, hair etc are today worshipped in certain temples in different parts of the world. This proves that unlike Jesus, they were human like you and I. And they died and remain dead. So, whose teachings should we believe – someone who is Living and had conquered death, or someone who remained in his grave. If what Jesus Christ says is true, that He is the way, the truth and the life, that He is the only way to God, the Father. It is crucial that we believe in Him and what He says. Failure to believe in Him will mean the opposite – death and eternal separation from God, the Father.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, thank you for making it clear to us that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life. We pray for the salvation of all our friends and family members who have yet to believe in Him. May you open their spiritual eyes to the truth. We humbly ask this in the great name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
