DEVOTION – DAY 360
Psalm 134:1-3 “Praising God All Day Long”
Psalm 134:1-3 “Praise the Lord, all you servants of the Lord who minister by night in the house of the Lord. Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the Lord. May the Lord bless you from Zion, He who is the Maker of heaven and earth.”
This psalm was thought to record an exchange between worshippers and the Levites who were priests. As the worshippers left the Temple in Jerusalem after the evening service, they called out to the Levites – to continue worshipping the Lord all through the night. The Levite priests would respond in verse 3 with a blessing to the worshippers as they left to go home.
From this simple exchange, we learn that – worship to the Lord is not only limited to set times of the day, worship of God should be all the time. We also learn that – when we put God first in all that we do, we will receive God’s many blessings in return.
How do we worship God all day long?
We know someone who worships the Lord by thanking God for her health, the fresh air she breaths when she exercises in her garden every morning. She thanks God as she marvels at the sunrise and hears the birds sing in the trees. She is thankful for the food she receives. As she goes to work, she sets out to do her work with the attitude that she is serving God. So, she does everything to the best of her abilities. She is helpful to others. She is cheerful and has a positive attitude. Even when she is caught in bad traffic driving home from work during the evening rush hour – instead of getting tired and bad tempered, she chooses to sing songs of praise on her drive home.
Singing praise songs as she drives not only removes traces of tiredness from her, the lyrics of the songs helps her to focus on God. And, when she winds down for the day, as she reflects on how her day had been – she cannot help but praise God for how He had helped and sustained her. She can count upon her many blessings: in the form of friends and family, for the fact that she has savings for the rainy day, and, for the joy of reading and knowing God’s Word each day. She is thankful of how God’s Word could minister to her heart and spirit. For this woman, this is how she worships the Lord all day long.
Each of us have different lifestyles and personalities. However, if we put God at the center of everything we do, we will also be able to worship Him all day long and be blessed as a result.
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, you are deserving of all our praise, honor and glory. You are Almighty, All-powerful, the Ever-present Living God. May we never cease to worship you all the days of our lives. We pray this in the wonderful name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
