DEVOTION – DAY 31

Isaiah 41:10 – “Do not fear”

Isaiah 41:10: “So do not fear, for I am with you, do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

When we wake up every morning, all we seem to see in the news is bad or negative news. When we go out to get food and provisions, we keep our distance from others because we fear we may be infected with Covid-19. When we go to the bank to withdraw money from an ATM machine, we look around first for we fear being robbed or stabbed by thieves.

Faced with fear, the Lord offers us hope, encouragement, strength and support not just during these worrying times but for all time. In verse 10, the Lord knows just how we feel. He tells us “Do not fear.” Our God is personal and He knows what each one of us is facing and He does not want us to lead fearful lives. He wants to free us from fear. Psalm 34:4 “I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.” We do not fear because verse 10 reminds us that God is with us. We are facing our troubles with God by our side. The Bible has many other similar references where God tells us not to be afraid for He is with us. This repetition is because God wants us to be free from our fears.

This verse also encourages us not to be dismayed or to give up hope. The Devil wants to get us down and to keep us down. Do not give in to your inner fears because God loves us dearly and He cares for us. We do our part by taking wise precautions and stay alert to danger and we can trust that God will protect us. Because vs.10 reminds us He is our personal God. God Almighty knows us even down to the number of hairs on our head. He is telling you and I that we need not be fearful because He is our God. He is with us. Notice that it is God Himself giving this personal assurance. What more could we ask for?

God is going to strengthen and help us. How will He strengthen us? When we are weak, the Bible tells us that we will be able to be strong (2 Cor.12:10b). Do you feel weak? God will strengthen you for His glory. God helped the Israelites during their 40 years of wandering in the wilderness. He gave them food, water, shelter and protection all that time. Even their shoes did not wear out. God will also help us as we face difficult times.

Finally, God says He will uphold us with His righteous right hand. God is already upholding us now. John 10:27-29 “My sheep listen to my voice. I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.” We are completely safe and secure. So, do not fear.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, thank you for the great privilege to have you as our personal God. Thank you for being with us always and help us not to be fearful but walk each day in victory. In Jesus Christ name we pray. Amen.
