DEVOTION – DAY 294
Psalm 55:22 “God Hears Our Cries”
Psalm 55:22 “Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken.”
Psalm 55:22 is a reassuring verse because it teaches us that our cries to the Lord do not fall on deaf ears. He hears our cries and He will sustain us. He will not allow us, His children to be shaken. This verse is true because the Bible is full of examples of people crying out to the Lord, and the Lord delivered them from harm. There is the example of Elijah who was in the wilderness and God sent ravens to feed Elijah. He could also drink from a nearby brook. And when Elijah was at a low period in his life fleeing from King Ahab and Queen Jezebel, God sent an angel to feed Elijah some food. Likewise, Daniel was thrown into a den of lions. God sovereignly protected him, and the lions did not even touch a single of his hair because God shut their mouths. David fought many battles often against armies much stronger and bigger than his own army. But God ensured his success in the battlefields.
We know someone who suffered a stroke. One side of her body was affected and she was unable to use that side of her body. Her speech was also affected. For a while, she was confined to her bed. She felt sorry for herself. Many people in her church prayed for her recovery. She also cried out to the Lord. Her progress was slow but her family members and church members encouraged her to work hard at her rehabilitation exercises. The Lord gave her strength and perseverance. She was able to regain some speech and she was able to be moved around in a wheelchair. She thanked the Lord when she was able to be discharged and continue her rehabilitation at home. Her family renovated a room at home and hired a maid to look after her. She thanked the Lord that she need not be put in a nursing home. Today, she is able to move about on her wheelchair on her own. She could also take small steps using a walker at home. She could feed herself and work at her computer. Her stroke had actually brought her closer to her family. She appreciated and loved her family more because she experienced firsthand how much they loved and cared for her. The Lord had cared for and sustained her. The Lord heard her cries.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we worship you for you are full of grace and mercy. Thank you for hearing and answering our cries. Please help us to count our blessings and to submit to you always. In the holy name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
