DEVOTION – DAY 282
Psalm 27:1 “The Lord Is Our Strength”
Psalm 27:1 “The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?”
Psalm 27 was written by King David. It is a confident prayer to God for deliverance. David had many enemies and there were times when his life was in danger. But David was confident that God would not abandon him. David knew that the Lord was his light and his salvation. The Lord was the stronghold in his life and he had nothing and no one to fear.
Today, there are people who are fearful. People are fearful of losing their jobs. People are fearful that with rising inflation, their savings may be insufficient for their retirement needs. People are fearful that they are unable to support their children to finish their higher education because of rising fees. People are fearful of the weakening Ringgit against the US Dollar. People are fearful about their failing health. People are fearful that they may not find a suitable life partner. So many things cause fear in people. But Psalm 27:1 reminds us that as Christians, we have the Lord. The Lord has saved us from bondage to sin and death when we put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ, as our Lord and Savior. The Lord has given us salvation. The Lord loves us. He loves us so much He sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for our sins. He, who loved us, will not abandon us. God is the stronghold of our lives. We too can have the same confidence that David had in the Lord. We do not need to be fearful about our enemies. Whether our enemies are inflation, ill heath, demanding bosses and so on.
We know someone who had multiple health issues. For the last two years, she and her family tried to stay away from crowds because of Covid-19. She was careful about wearing face masks and using hand sanitizers. Recently, her husband was tested positive and her heart sank when she was also tested positive. Then, her own son and daughter also eventually tested positive. She experienced high fever and felt tiredness. Throughout, she looked to God as the light and source of her salvation. She prayed for healing and to replace her fears with His peace. She thanked God that although her whole family had Covid-19, her maid was well and repeatedly tested negative. Her maid was able to prepare them nutritious food. Other church members advised her of what medication to take and within a few days, her family slowly recovered. The Lord is the stronghold of her life. He is the source of her confidence. She trusted the Lord and surrendered her fears to Him.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, you are our Light, our Salvation and our Stronghold in our lives. Please help us to live lives of victory and not fear. Grant us your peace as we face each new day. In the precious name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
