DEVOTION – DAY 211
Psalm 103:2-5 “God’s Abundant Blessings”
Psalm 103:2-5 “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits – who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
As we are soon celebrating another Chinese New Year, we look forward to the blessings people offer to their friends and family alike, when they see each other. The blessings we give to each other are nothing compared to the blessings that God has given to every Christian. The above verses give us some examples of these personal blessings. Let us look at them.
Instead of judging and punishing us for our sins, God had forgiven us all our sins. Before we were Christians, the sins in our lives have caused us to be spiritually empty and blinded but because God had forgiven us when we believed in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, His forgiveness have healed us spiritually – that is what healing all our diseases means in vs.3. God has also given us eternal life when He redeemed us from being convicted to hell – that is what the “pit” in vs.4 referred to. Instead of the prospect of being sent to hell, we receive God’s love and compassion. In vs.5, another blessing that God gives us is that He is our Provider – good things come from Him. God even gives us renewed energy in vs.5. This is just a short list of God’s abundant blessings that He has given to every follower of Jesus Christ. We can only thank Him.
A man used to worship idols but when he heard the gospel message, he was convinced that it was the truth. For the first time in his life, he was sure his sins had been forgiven and the weight of his sins were removed when he received Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior. But when he told his family his decision to become a Christian, his family disowned him. Although his family disowned him, God embraced him into God’s family. This man joined a church and he made many friends there. God brought changes into his life, and these changes were so strong that his own family realized that it must be God’s work in this man’s life. In time, one by one, his family became Christians as well. Now, this man is sure that his loved ones have been redeemed from the “pit” just like him. They have received abundant blessings from God. Praise to the Lord!
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we praise you for you are our Redeemer, the Giver of all good things. Thank you for your grace that is new every morning. Please help us to be your channel of blessings to others that you bring into our lives. In the precious name of the Lord Jesus we ask. Amen.
