DEVOTION – DAY 184
Job 42:2 I know that you can do all things, no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
In the book of Job, Job’s situation was desperate. He lost all his children, his extensive livestock and servants. He lost his health and was reduced to living in rags and covered with sores. Even though Job had no idea why misfortune had fallen upon him, he continued to have faith in God. He realized that God and His purposes were supreme. No one can compare with God. There was nothing that God cannot do. God had the right to shower blessings and remove blessings for he is Sovereign. No one has the right to question God because God never makes mistakes. His purposes are always good. God will carry out His plans and nothing can stop Him. This was Job’s conclusion in Job 42:2. In the end, God rewarded Job’s faith and trust in Him. God doubled His blessings to Job.
In 1995, a couple who were childless came across a family that was too poor to provide for their young son. This couple took pity on the young boy and after praying about the matter, they decided to “adopt” and care for the young boy themselves. Their decision made them realize that there were many other children who were uncared for. These were children with abusive parents, children from broken homes, children whose parents were unable to care for them because of poverty, and children who have lost their parents and were orphans. This couple did not have much savings but they felt God’s leading them to do the impossible. To provide a home for these unwanted children and to raise them up to love and to serve God. This couple approached churches for some support and by faith, they rented a house and started to take in unwanted children. They looked to God to provide for co-workers. They looked to God to provide funding and provisions. They looked to God to provide sufficient housing.
God rewarded their faith in Him. Over the years donations from well-wishers enabled this couple to acquire a few houses to accommodate the children. Through the years, they were able to help raise hundreds of children. God moved the hearts of people to provide funds so that there is food, clothing and schooling for these children. In time, when the children matured and started to work, many would return on their off days to help out. God can do all things. We must be faithful to do our part and trust in Him, the Almighty Sovereign God whose purposes are always good.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we worship you for you can do all things. You are Almighty and Sovereign. Your purposes are always good. Help us to trust in you in all circumstances and to allow you to fulfill your purposes through us for your glory. In the name of the Lord Jesus we pray. Amen.
