DEVOTION – DAY 172

Psalm 139:1-4 “Be Transparent Before God”

Psalm 139:1-4 “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit, and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.”

David, who wrote this psalm, expressed his deep understanding of God. In these verses, David revealed that nothing can be hidden from God because He knows everything. God even knows what our inner thoughts and motives are even before we have the chance to even speak a single word. Nothing escapes God because He knows when we sit and when we rise. He knows what is in our mind even though He may be in Heaven and we are here on earth. He knows our every movement even though we do not see Him. God is Omnipresent and Omniscient.

A woman suspected her maid was ill treating her children when she was at work. She shared her suspicions with her husband. Her husband secretly installed some CCTV cameras in their home so that they could observe what the maid did behind their backs. They were shocked by what they saw. A man was unfaithful and started an affair thinking that no one knew. His wife became suspicious and she checked his handphone without him knowing. She found evidence of the affair. A rich man wanted to impress his business contacts by telling them he studied at a prestigious university. But the truth eventually came out that he had only attended an executive one-week course there and had never taken a full degree course that he claimed he had. What have the maid, the philandering husband and this rich man have in common? They have all done something that was wrong thinking that on one else would know. But they were found out in the end.

There are many people who foolishly think that they can do what they please so long as they do it behind people’s backs and no one will get hurt and they get what they want. They forget that whilst they can fool some people, they cannot fool God because He is Omnipresent and He is Omniscient. Nothing escapes God because He knows and sees everything, even our smallest secrets are known to Him. So, let us worship and respect our Almighty, All-Present and All-Knowing God and be always transparent before Him. Let no sin stand between us and our God.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we worship you for nothing and no one escapes your attention. Please help us to live holy and blameless lives before you and to give you all the glory. In the awesome name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
