DEVOTION – DAY 141
Psalm 18:2 “God Is Our Rock”
Psa.18:2 “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and deliverer, my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
Describing God as his rock was common in King David’s day. This was because the Jews used the image of a rock to symbolize God’s everlasting strength and safe refuge for His people. God is also seen as a deliverer and shield against one’s enemies. This was relevant for David because he spent some time running away from his enemies like King Saul who wanted him dead. David often faced overwhelming odds and he was often in danger. However, he was comforted by the fact that God was with him and God was his rock and his stronghold. God would save him and he referred to God as “the horn of my salvation”,
As we face another spike in Covid-19 infections in our country, we are concerned. We heard of a large church in our city where a few members were tested positive of Covid-19. At the same time, we know of a kindergarten where a student there was also tested positive. Also, many schools in our city had to be closed because of Covid-19 cases in these schools. There were reports that the Intensive Care Units of hospitals were almost at full capacity. Everyone knew someone who had been tested positive of the virus. It is times like these that when we are worried or fearful, it is good to remember that our God is our rock. It is good to remember that God had faithfully been protecting us, our relatives and friends from being infected by Covid-19 since the pandemic began. God is indeed our refuge, shield and fortress. We can trust that God will continue to protect us.
As we look back, since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, we can see that God is indeed our rock and fortress. Only a few church members contracted Covid-19. None of them contracted the virus in church but through work or from a family member. Our church took every necessary precaution to practice social distancing and sanitization. But, the church also continued to remain open whenever allowed by the authorities. This was to enable us to minister to the community trusting in God’s protective hand over all of us. God is indeed our rock, fortress and deliverer.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, thank you for being our rock, fortress and deliverer. Thank you for helping us through turbulent times and giving us your peace. Please help us to walk closely with you trusting in you daily. In the name of the Lord Jesus, we ask and pray. Amen.
