DEVOTION – DAY 110

1 Peter 2:9 “Our Inheritance In Christ”

1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.”

As we approach major festivals like Chinese New Year (Spring Festival), we look forward to spending time with friends and family that we do not often get to meet up with. Some of them might not be Christians. It is times like this, we become more aware of the differences between us Christians, and our friends and relatives who are not Christians.

The verse in 1 Pet.2:9 reminds us of who we are as Christians. Christians are a chosen people. Of all the people in the world, the Lord Jesus chose us to be His people. He chose us not because there was anything good or special about us. He chose us out of His grace and Sovereign Will. We did nothing to deserve being chosen by the Lord.

Christians are also a royal priesthood. Priests offer spiritual sacrifices of praise and prayer to God. Priests devote their lives to God. In the same way, Christians have a share of and inheritance in God’s Kingdom through their relationship with Jesus Christ. In this sense, Christians are “royal”. They are also priests because they are able to come before God and offer up their prayers and praise to Him clothed in Christ’ righteousness.

Christians are a holy nation, a people set apart by God so that non-Christians can see the difference in the behavior, actions and attitudes of Christians. As a result, Christians would point people to Jesus Christ by the way they conduct themselves and through their testimonies about Jesus. Christians are truly God’s special people.

We should not keep these privileges to ourselves but use festivals like Chinese New Year where we can tell our non- Christian family and friends about Jesus Christ so that they too can believe in Him as their Lord and Savior and share in these great privileges that Christians enjoy.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we want to thank you for choosing us and giving us such great privileges and to be included in your family. Help us to boldly tell our non-Christian family members and friends about the Lord Jesus and please open their hearts to the gospel message so that they too can have the gift of salvation that we enjoy. In the wonderful name of the Lord Jesus we pray. Amen.
