DEVOTION – DAY 148

Isaiah 41:10 “Do Not Fear”

Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

In Isaiah 41, the Lord declares He is our Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel and that He, is our God. And in v.10, God declares that He is upholding us in His righteous right hand. The right hand of God is a symbol for His salvation and power. God’s power has victory over everything and everyone. Because God is upholding us, He tells us not to be fearful. God tells us He will strengthen us and help us in our time of need. This is so reassuring because many are fearful. The Covid-19 virus is spreading and the new variants are re-infecting some who have been vaccinated already. The new variants are also more contagious. Many countries are seeing rapid rises in the number of cases.

Here, in Malaysia, we are in the middle of another lockdown. Despite the lockdown, the number of daily cases were still very high. And we all know someone who had been infected by Covid-19. Some have even died as a result. As many are waiting for their turn to be vaccinated, we might be fearful, because there have been reports that some of these vaccines can cause blood clots. In some rare cases, the blood clots have caused deaths. This has caused people to become undecided whether to register for the vaccination or not. But we find comfort in Isaiah 41:10. That assures us that God who is All powerful is upholding us and will help us. We do not need to be fearful because He is by our side. Just as the people of Israel were surrounded by enemy nations and we may be surrounded by an unseen enemy known as Covid-19 virus, we do not need to be afraid. God is with us. He will strengthen us just as He strengthened the people of Israel as they fought battles against enemy nations many times stronger than they were. So, we can play our part by taking precautions by ourselves. We avoid crowded places. We observe social distancing and we wear our masks and wash our hands frequently. We also stay at home wherever possible to minimize contact with other people. We try to work from home and do online shopping. And we stay close to God and trust that He will continue to protect us and that whatever vaccine we take will give us added protection. We can trust Him because He is the Almighty God of the heavens and the earth.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we worship you, the Almighty God, who upholds us in your righteous right hand. We cry out for your protection from Covid-19, please help us. We pray for your strengthening of our immune systems, and spiritual strengthening. In the precious name of the Lord Jesus. Amen.
