DEVOTION – DAY 130

Genesis 18:12-14 “Nothing Is Impossible For God”

Gen.18:12-14 “So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, “After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?” Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, “Will I really have a child, now that I am old? Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.”

The Lord prophesied that Sarah would have a child although she was well past her child bearing years. Sarah, who was eavesdropping and heard the prophecy laughed in disbelief. The Lord knew her thoughts and confronted her about her disbelief. The Lord repeated that she would have a son within the year. From this account, we learn that we are often like Sarah. We allow what we see and think to limit what we think God can do. Sarah thought she was an old woman and that it was impossible for her to bear a child. But, with God, nothing is impossible and if God promised that she would bear a son, she would bear a son. God is the Almighty God of the Universe and there is nothing He cannot do if He sets His mind to it. He can create anything out of nothing.

I recall that when I was a Christian for about 5-6 years, someone told me she had a thought that I would one day be a “pastor”. I remembered I laughed and thought she must have been mistaken because I did not know the bible well. I had no experience, desire or calling to be a pastor. Besides, I was working in the corporate world that was far removed from God’s work. I soon forgot what this woman said and I carried on with my life. All this while, unknown to me, God was indeed preparing me for pastoral work. Looking back, my corporate work and my subsequent involvement in service for the way the Lord was equipping me for what lay ahead. By the time I was approached to consider doing some pastoral work, I no longer laughed but said I would seriously pray about it and consider this request. I realized that nothing is impossible where God is concerned. I also know someone who was living for himself and trying to get ahead in life by focusing on his career. I had told him that his focus was wrong but he laughed and thought I was crazy to tell him to focus on pleasing God. I prayed for him. And God worked in his heart. Today, 12 years later, he is serving the Lord actively and he places God above his own career. And he is a lot more joyful. Nothing is impossible for God.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, please help us to always have a high view of you and to remember that nothing is impossible where you are concerned. Help us to always fall in with your plans for us. In the great name of the Lord Jesus we ask and pray. Amen.
