DEVOTION – DAY 615

Psalm 63:3-4 “Worship God!”

Psalm 63:3-4 “Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name, I will lift up my hands.”

This psalm was written by King David at a time when he had to flee the city of Jerusalem because his enemies and their army was approaching to capture him. King David fled into the desert of Judah. Despite such challenging circumstances, he could still write a psalm of praise to worship God. He had to leave behind his palace, his concubines and the ark of the covenant. He knew that he would only be able to return to Jerusalem if it was God’s will for him. David realized that his position, his possessions and all that the world or life has to offer him were temporary. Compared to God’s love for him, these things were nothing. So, David would glorify God with songs of praise. David would lift up his hands in the act of worship and prayer to God. David knew that with God’s love, God would watch over him. There was no need to fear his enemies. 

Many people find it easy to praise God when everything runs well in their lives. But when circumstances turn bad, because their eyes are fixed on their circumstances, they find it hard to praise and worship God. They should learn from David when people turn their eyes away from their circumstances and instead focus on God and His abundant promises and faithfulness, they will not be fearful. Fear is replaced with hope. Anxiety is replaced with an inner peace. Cries and tears are replaced with praise and worship to God.

We know someone who is going through cancer treatment. We are helping him to depend upon the Lord, and to turn his mind to focus on God’s faithfulness. He is learning not to be anxious and fearful. 

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we praise You, for You are faithful, merciful, the Prince of Peace, our shield and protector. We want to worship at your feet for there is none like You. Please help us to always fix our eyes on You and not on our circumstances so that our worship of you remains constant. We humbly ask this in the mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
