DEVOTION – DAY 608

Hebrews 13:20-21 “Everything Good”

Hebrews 13:20-21 “Now may the God of peace who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep equip you with everything good for doing His will, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever Amen.”

The above verses tell us that God has restored peace to those who had been separated from Him because of sins in their lives. This was done by the shed blood of the Lord Jesus on the cross when He atoned for our sins. Those that have repented and called upon Jesus as Lord and Savior have now been “raised” to a new eternal life. Just as God had raised Jesus Christ, we too have been “raised”. We are equipped with “everything good” meaning faith, faithfulness, obedience to God Word’s and will, perseverance etc. so that we can serve Him and to give Him the glory.

We know someone who had come to the lowest point in his life. His wife had left him for another man. They divorced and he ended up with the custody of their two sons. He was trying to cope as a single parent and working full-time. He felt he was losing control of the situation. In desperation, he confided with a friend who offered to pray for him and to share with him the gospel message. With nothing to lose, he called out to Jesus for help and invited Him into his life as Lord and Savior.

At first, nothing seemed to have changed. His situation remained but he soon realized he had a new found strength to face each day’s challenges. He had love and patience in dealing with his sons. He experienced an inner peace that he never felt before. He knew in his heart that it could only be Jesus Christ. He realized that Jesus is equipping him for everything good for doing His will.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, thank you for equipping us with everything good so that we can fulfill your purposes through us in ways that reflect your goodness and love to others. Please mold us to be more and more like the Lord Jesus. We humbly pray in the sacred name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
