DEVOTION – DAY 524

Romans 14:11-12 “All Will Confess That Jesus Is Lord”

Romans 14:11-12 “It is written “As surely as I live, says the Lord, every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.” So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.

We live in a world where atheists hold the view that there is no God. Muslims at the same time insist that there is no God but Allah. They deny that Allah and the Christian God are the same. Hindus meanwhile worship multiple gods and they see the Christian God is just one of the many gods in their pantheon of gods. Buddhism meanwhile teaches an eight-fold path to enlightenment where a person is released from a cycle of reincarnation. There isn’t a concept about God and the emphasis is on one’s own efforts to gain merit and a better reincarnation.

But the Bible emphasizes that God exists and is the Creator of the whole Universe and everything in it. The evidence of God’s existence is around us. The fact that the animal kingdom and nature co-exist in harmonious balance points to a Creator God and that it was not left to chance or evolution. The fact that the physical world is full of natural wonders show evidence of God’s hand. The fact that our human bodies are so intricately designed and functions so well point to God’s power and creative capabilities. The Bible also tells us in verses like Romans 14:11-12 that every knee will bow and acknowledge Him as God one day. A day will come when everyone will have to bow and confess that God is indeed the Almighty God and Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He will one day return to judge the world and everyone will have to stand before Him to give an account of themselves.

We know someone who had worshipped idols for most of her life. It was part of her family tradition and she followed the religious practices taught to her by friends and family members. But she was never sure that all her religious practices would atone for her sins in her life. She was never sure if she had earned enough merits to be freed from the cycle of rebirth and suffering and that she could go to heaven when she died. Whilst wrestling with these doubts regarding her faith, she faced serious health issues. This caused her to further question her faith. She had many questions but no answers. Someone offered to pray to Jesus for her healing and she welcomed the prayers. This eventually paved the way for her to be open to the truth that God sent His Son, Jesus Christ to live as Man and to die for the sins of all people who would put their faith and trust in Him as their Lord and Savior. This truth convicted her heart and she welcomed Jesus into her life as her Lord and Savior. It gave her an inner peace.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, you deserve all praise, honor and glory because you are the Almighty God of the Universe. We bow down and worship you for there is none like you. We pray that many unbelievers will acknowledge you as the true God, and Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. We pray in the great name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
