DEVOTION – DAY 491
Romans 1:20 “God Reveals Himself”
Romans 1:20 “For since the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities – His eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”
In this verse, God sums up the fact that no one – not even one person has an excuse of saying that they have not heard of God. No one has any excuse for not honoring Him. This is because the whole of creation, the world and the universe that we all live in is created by God and it reveals God’s majesty to us. We only need to look at every sunrise and sunset to see the beauty that declares the majesty of God. We only need to look at the countless stars in the night sky to acknowledge that God had created the vast expanse of the Universe that scientists today is still unable to quantify. If we put a snowflake under a microscope, we marvel at its structure. No two snowflakes bear the same structure. The variety and color of leaves, flowers, fruits and vegetables all bear testimony to God’s amazing creative power and divine nature.
It is clear for everyone to see. But sadly, many people choose to ignore the presence of God, the Almighty Creator. Instead, there are people who choose to explain it all away as evolution, or the “big bang” or mother nature or pure chance. Some even end up worshipping the creation instead of the Creator. That is why people sometimes worship the sun, the moon, or stars, or idols in the shape of animals. When they do that, they are without excuse for their failure to acknowledge God.
We know someone who was a temple medium. She also worshipped idols. These idols were supposed to have power over the sea, and the elements. This woman’s son was a Christian and he had tried to share the gospel with his mother. He wanted to help her worship the true God of the Universe, and not all her false gods. A breakthrough came when a heavy thunderstorm caused a large tree to uproot and fall on her temple causing heavy damage to the temple. Her son told her that her idols were powerless to stop the storm or the falling tree. It caused her to reflect deeply on her beliefs. Her idols were supposed to control the elements and yet, the idols were powerless to hold back a storm. Such doubts eventually led her to be open to the gospel message, and she received Jesus as her Lord and Savior.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, you are our Almighty Creator of the Universe and everything in it. We pray for the salvation of everyone who continues to be blind to your presence as revealed in the wonders of nature that surrounds them. Please help them to be open to the truth of your mighty presence and love. We pray in the wonderful name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
