DEVOTION – DAY 336

Hebrews 11:11 “Faith In God”

Hebrews 11:11 “And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered Him faithful who had made the promise.”

Sarah was an old woman and she had been childless. In her old age, the Lord promised her and her husband Abraham that they would have a son. Hebrews 11:11 tells us that Sarah had faith in the Lord’s promise. Her faith was not blind faith because her faith was based on the person who made that promise. She had faith in God, the Almighty God of the Universe. If God had promised that she would be pregnant with her own son, she was going to believe Him even though her own eyes tell her she was too old to have children. She believed that nothing was impossible as far as God was concerned. God had protected them in their long journey from Ur in Mesopotamia and He is faithful.

Some people make the mistake of just thinking if they only have more faith, they will be able to achieve much. Whether it is faith in friends, faith in themselves, faith in their bank accounts – this is what some people think is all they need. But we know that friends, money, and even our own abilities can fail us in our time of need. So, it is important to base our faith on something that is eternal and always trustworthy – and we find that in God, Himself.

We know someone who was faced with many challenges in her life all at the same time. She had serious health issues and her husband also had his own health issues. She was facing problems at work because business was slow. She and her husband were also actively serving in Church. Her brother-in-law became terminally ill and she had to help sort out his financial issues before he went home to be with the Lord. Her own child faced a crisis and she had to be there for her child. Throughout all these challenges, she trusted that the Lord would pull her through these difficulties. The Lord is faithful and she knew she must take each day at a time, and just do what she has to do in all her various roles and trust the rest to God. And God did not disappoint her. God saw her through every crisis. Looking back on the last two years, she can only marvel at how God had sustained her and helped her weather one crisis after another.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we worship you for you are Faithful and the source of our strength. Help us to always fix our eyes on you and to trust you in all circumstances. We pray this in the wonderful name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
