DEVOTION – DAY 288
Isaiah 6:5 “A High View Of God”
Isaiah 6:5 “Woe to me! I cried. I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”
In Isaiah 6, he saw a vision of God sitting on His throne and the vision was so striking that he could not help but exclaim in v5 that he was doomed. He was dismayed because anyone who saw God expected to die immediately because God is Holy and mankind is not holy. Mankind is unworthy to look at God or be in His presence because man is unclean. Isaiah knew he was unclean because of the sin nature that was in him.
But today, many people have become insensitive to the sins in their lives. There are people who make light of their sins. They refer to their sins as mistakes. They also think that since everyone makes mistakes and no one is perfect, they think their sins are therefore not a problem. Some people even blame God for making them the way they are, that they cannot help themselves when they sinned. They blame everyone else except themselves for their sins.
There are people who have also lost their high view of God. Many people are even casual about the way they treat God. Many people are casual about the way they approach God in prayer. Rarely do we see people praying to God on their knees. Some even fall asleep as they pray to God. Such attitudes are a sharp contrast to Isaiah when he had a vision of God. We need to learn from Isaiah’s example and keep a high view of God. Only then, can we fully appreciate the great privilege that God has given to each one of us to be able to approach His throne of grace. We can only do so because of what Jesus had done on the cross to atone for our sins. Like Isaiah, we too are people with unclean lips. The only way we can come before God is through Jesus Christ.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we worship you for you are Holy! Holy! Holy! You are the Lord Almighty, and the whole earth is full of your glory. Please forgive us for the times we had been casual in your presence. Please help us to always have a high view of you and to give you the respect, honor and glory you richly deserve. We pray this in the wonderful name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
