DEVOTION – DAY 265
Psalm 145:18 “The Lord Is Near.”
Psalm 145:18 “The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.”
Psalm 145 is a wonderful psalm written by King David. It praises God for His attributes and His mighty acts. One of God’s attributes is given to us in v18. This verse reminds us that the Lord is near to all who call on Him. It is common for people to have the mistaken idea that God is seated high above us in Heaven and that He is a remote from us. King David dismissed this idea by telling us that God is not remote and distant. He is close by and all we have to do is to call on Him. He further added that we are to call on Him in truth. This means that when we call on God, we are approaching Him with humility, and our will are aligned with His Will for us. When we do that, God will hear our cries for He is always near.
Someone we know recently shared this personal experience. He had driven his car to see someone. After his meeting was over, he walked back to his car. On reaching his car, he put his hand in his trousers’ pocket where he thought his keys were, but he could not find it. He had a horrible feeling that perhaps he had dropped the keys somewhere. He decided to retrace his steps, all the while looking at the ground in case he could see where his keys might have fallen. He found nothing. After searching fruitlessly for some time, he gave up. He decided that he had no choice but to leave his car behind and walk home and get his spare car keys. He estimated he would have to walk 6KM to get to his apartment and another 6KM to walk back to his car with his spare car keys. He started walking home. After walking about halfway home, he decided to pray to God for help. A thought came to him to turn his trouser pockets inside out. He did just that, and to his great surprise, amongst the contents of his pockets, his car keys was there. He was so sure he had lost his car keys. Imagine his joy and surprise to find his car keys in his pockets after all. He quickly thanked God for hearing his cries for help and he began the long walk back to where he had parked his car.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we praise you for you are faithful and personal. Thank you for always being by our side and watching over us. Please help us to walk closely with you always. We humbly ask this of You, in the powerful name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
