DEVOTION – DAY 176

2 Chronicles 20:22-23 “The God Of The Impossible”

2 Chron.20:22-23 As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated. The Ammonites and the Moabites rose up against the men from Mount Seir to destroy and annihilate them. After they finished slaughtering the men from Seir, they helped to destroy one another.

King Jehoshaphat was the king of Judah. In 2 Chron.20, he was informed that a large combined army from Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir was approaching to attack Judah. King Jehoshaphat was alarmed. He ordered the city to fast and seek the Lord in prayer. God spoke through Jahaziel, a Levite, to inform King Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah that God would fight their battle for them, for the battle belonged to God. Early the next morning, King Jehoshaphat and his army went out to face the approaching combined armies of their enemies. King Jehoshaphat told his men to have faith in God. He arranged for men to sing praises to the Lord and for these singers to march ahead of his army. The above verses 22-23 recorded what happened after that. God kept His promise. God caused the combined enemy army to fight amongst themselves until every one of the enemy soldiers lay dead in the battlefield. King Jehoshaphat and his men did not have to do anything except collect the plunder, equipment and clothing of the conquered armies and that took them three days to do that.

From these verses, we learn a few things. There are times in our lives when we face overwhelming odds and the only thing we can do is to fast and pray and to seek the Lord’s help. We also learn that in times of trouble, we should never neglect spending time to sit still, to worship and praise God. And to seek His will and His help. We also learn to trust God despite circumstances that may discourage us.

A child was born with a Malaysian father and a foreign mother. Unfortunately, her father failed to register her birth so she did not have a birth certificate. Then, her father died not long after her birth, leaving her status as stateless. Over the years, efforts were made to secure an identity card for her but the efforts were not successful since she had no birth certificate. The child’s case came to the attention of the church and the matter was committed to regular prayer. The matter was surrendered to the Lord. In the end, the child was able to get an identity card and her future was made secure.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, you are our Defender, our Shield, our Shelter and nothing is too difficult for you. Help us to trust in you alone and not lean on our own strength and understanding. In the blessed name for the Lord Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
