DEVOTION – DAY 154
Psalm 91:1-2 “The Lord Is Our Refuge”
Psalm 91:1-2 “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
Psalm 91 is a glowing testimony about how God is faithful and trustworthy to His people. The psalmist assures God’s people in this psalm. Who are God’s people? In v.1, God’s people are defined as people who seek to make God, the Most High One, their dwelling place. God is above everything, that is why He alone is God, Most High. He is the Almighty One. This means He is the most powerful Being in the whole Universe. Nothing is more powerful than He is. God is also our refuge and He is our fortress. That means we can depend on Him to shield us in times of trouble and challenges. We can depend on Him when we are desperate and helpless. We know we will safe in His hands. We have this assurance when we choose to dwell in the shelter of the Most High. We have this assurance when we put our faith and trust in our Lord, Jesus – who has been given all authority in the heavens and on earth, and below the earth.
In the last month alone, we know of at least two cases where Christians who had been dwelling in the shelter of the Lord, Most High had their prayers answered. In the 1st case, Mr. A had been praying for the salvation of his grandfather for some time. His grandfather was getting old and his health was not good. Mr. A spent time with his grandfather before he died and he managed to share the gospel with him and led him to receive Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Mr. A knew that without the Lord’s help to work in his grandfather’s heart, he would not have been successful. God in His mercy answered Mr. A’s prayers about his grandfather.
In the 2nd case, Mrs. B’s father was ill and she had been praying for the salvation of her father. His illness worried him a great deal. God used it to caused him to re-examine his life and to soften his heart towards God. After this man recovered from his illness, he also received Jesus Christ into his life as his Lord and Savior. Mrs. B was overjoyed and she knew that God had worked in her father’s heart and good came out of his illness. God had faithfully answered her prayers. In both these cases, God’s people found refuge and trust in the Lord, Most High.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we thank you for being our refuge and fortress and being our Almighty God. We can trust in you to do what we cannot do for your glory. In the great name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
