DEVOTION – DAY 577

Psalm 121:1-2 “The Lord Is The Source Of Our Help”

Psalm 121:1-2 “I lift up my eyes to the mountains – where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

Psalm 121 offers assurance and encouragement for everyone who faces challenges. The psalm begins with a confession of trust in the Lord. At that time, those living in the city of Jerusalem may look up and see Mt Zion and other mountains. It reminds everyone of the one true God, the King of all creation, the Maker of heaven and earth. This is God who watches over us and will not let our foot slip (Psalm 121:3). He will keep us from all harm (Psalm 121:7). The Lord will watch over our coming and going both now and forevermore. (Psalm 121:8). With God by our side, we need not be worried, but be encouraged instead.

A pastor we know was diagnosed with cancer. His heart sank when he was given the diagnosis. But he trusted God. His congregation rallied around him to raise much needed funds to pay for his treatment. Our church also helped with raising some funds to help with his treatment. As he underwent treatment, his strength weakened. The Lord is good. There were sufficient co-workers to lead in church services during this pastor’s absence. However, his treatment did not seem to work.

He cried out to the Lord for help. This time, he sought the advice of an oncologist that recommended a form of treatment that seemed to work. His test results show some shrinkage of the tumor. He is continuing with the treatment and he draws strength and hope from the Lord. Although he may not have sufficient funds if invasive surgery is necessary, he continues to trust that the Lord will come to his aid. The Lord has given him and his family His peace, it is a peace that transcends all understanding. He is also grateful for the funds that our church had helped raise for his treatment. He knows that the Almighty God is holding him in His hands.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we worship you for you are the Maker of heaven and earth. There is none like you. Thank you for reminding us that with you watching over us, we need not worry but to walk closely with you, trusting fully in you alone. Please help us to fix our eyes upon you always. We pray in the mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
