DEVOTION – DAY 544
Lamentations 3:22-23 “Great Is His Faithfulness”
Lamentations 3:22-23 “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
In Hebrew, the words “great love” is in plural. This means that God has a loving faithfulness to all His covenantal promises to His people. His compassion for His people never fails, they are new every morning. His faithfulness is beyond measure. If we look at the history of the Jewish people, God’s faithfulness to His covenant promises made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was kept just as God had promised. This was despite the fact that the Jewish people were unfaithful to God from time to time. They lapsed into idolatry and God sent many prophets to warn His people to turn back to Him. The people may be unfaithful but God is always faithful. Great is His faithfulness indeed!
I recall my own spiritual journey. I first heard the gospel when I was in pre-University. But I rejected the invitation to invite Jesus into my life. God is faithful even when I was not. He sent people to visit me when I was in University and they shared the gospel with me. I again turned away the offer to have Jesus in my life. Eight years later, God again sent colleagues who were Christians to come alongside me to challenge me to consider having Jesus in my life. They gave me gospel tracts. It was through reading one of these tracts that I quietly invited Jesus into my life as my Lord and Savior. Looking back, God had faithfully given me many opportunities to receive His offer of salvation. I thank God for great is His faithfulness.
I knew someone who prayed for the salvation of her husband. She had invited Jesus into her life as her Lord and Savior. She was baptized in our church and at her baptism, she invited her husband to witness her baptism and share her joy. He came but he remained an unbeliever. She never gave up praying for her husband’s salvation. God is faithful and He heard her prayers. During Covid-19 pandemic, her husband was infected with the virus and he was rushed to hospital. He had difficulty breathing. That was when he realized that death was a real possibility and that was when he opened his heart to invite Jesus Christ into his life as his Lord and Savior. His wife could only thank God for His great faithfulness in answering her prayers regarding her husband’s salvation.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we worship you for you are merciful, compassionate, and great is your faithfulness. Your loving kindness knows no bounds. Thank you for your free gift of salvation. We pray for the salvation of all our non-believing family members and friends. We humbly pray in the wonderful name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
