DEVOTION – DAY 118
Isaiah 37:14-15 “Overcoming Our Fears”
Isaiah 37:14-15 Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple of the Lord and spread it out before the Lord. And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord.
King Hezekiah received a letter of threat from the King of Assyria. He threatened soon to return and conquer Jerusalem The letter was meant to intimidate and create fear in Hezekiah causing him to consider surrendering. Hezekiah was fearful but He did the right thing. He went up to the temple and spread out the letter before the altar of the Lord and knelt down and prayed. We too should follow Hezekiah’s example.
There are times in our lives when we become fearful. Some of us are fearful that we might have been exposed to Covid-19 virus having been with someone who had been tested positive. Some of us may be fearful for the safety of our children whether they would be exposed to the virus at school if classes resume. Some could be fearful about their health because there is a family history of cancer or heart disease. Some may be fearful of losing their jobs because business is bad because of the global slowdown and their bosses are talking about the need to cut costs. Fears are inevitable but God does not want us to live a life of fear. Let us learn from Hezekiah’s example. Let us take our fears whatever they may be, and go to our rooms, kneel down, and lay these fears before the Lord, and humbly seek His help. Our circumstances may not change immediately but the Lord will give us an inner peace that He is with us and will somehow come to our help.
I was fearful of the Covid-19 virus because I fall within the high-risk group. And as the number of cases rose in our country, I know I cannot remain a prisoner at home and live in fear. So, I took this fear before the Lord and asked for His help. He removed that fear and gave me peace. I know I have to be careful where I go and follow all the necessary health procedures like wearing masks, keeping social distance, frequently washing of hands etc. I know I can trust in His gracious protection just as I have to take all the necessary precautions. I do not need to live in fear.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, in you alone we place our faith, trust and hope. With you in our lives, there is nothing to fear. Help us to be wise especially in this time of global pandemic, not take unnecessary risks and to still live our lives fully in you. In the great name of the Lord Jesus, we pray. Amen.
