DEVOTION – DAY 215

Galatians 6:7b-8 “Reaping What We Sow”

Gal.6:7b-8 “A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”

These verses from the book of Galatians uses a farming example to teach us that a farmer will reap what he sows. In the same way, in life, if we focus on doing good and right things, we will achieve a good outcome. On the other hand, if we focus on doing bad and wrong things, we will achieve a bad outcome.

That means that if we spend our time trying to satisfy our earthly desires like eating rich and unhealthy foods, drinking alcohol excessively, smoking, getting addicted to gaming, or gambling and having casual sex with multiple partners, we will one day reap destruction. Destruction will come in the form of poor health, ruined relationships, broken marriages and indebtedness and so on. But on the other hand, if we choose to spend our time to please God and follow His ways, we will be developing relationships, helping others, keeping a healthy lifestyle, serving God in various ministries, we will find ourselves surrounded by people we love and people who loves us, and enjoy an unbroken relationship with God.

A young man became addicted to online gaming. He spent all his time gaming and his addiction caused him to spend all his money on his gaming habit. When he ran out of money, he began to borrow money from others. He soon became indebted to several moneylenders. In the end, his relatives had to use their savings to help pay his debts. This man’s addiction caused him to lose his job and there was no hope. In his darkest moment, he met some Christians who took him to church. He realized that he was reaping destruction because of his addiction to gaming. From that time, he decided to change with God’s help. He began to spend his time to help in various ways in church. After many months, he slowly overcame his addiction to gaming. He managed to get a new job. He was able to have a new start in life. He was able to slowly build up some savings. More importantly, he invited Jesus Christ into his life as his Lord and Savior. He had reaped eternal life. He had replaced destruction with eternal life.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, thank you for the wisdom in your Word. Thank you for reminding us that we reap what we sow and that we should be sowing to please you and for eternal good always. May we always obey you. In the wonderful name of the Lord Jesus, we pray. Amen.
